Found a large flock of pelicans on the beach this morning - a bit too late for having good light though. Managed to grab this head shot of two pelicans in their breeding plumage.

Nice head shots, Dieter. These two should be on a double-mint gum commercial! Maybe its me but the foreheads seem a bit soft. Maybe that was the harsh light?

Dieter,
This is a very nice shout...:D TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE...:D:D
Love the colors and details, good eye contact. Would like to see just a tad of canvas to the left of your subject...:)

Big Congrats...:D

Wonderful image Dieter.... But then you don't take too many that aren't.

Looks a bit soft to me as well. I tried a little sharpening here but I think it should be done with the full size image. For the web I think more space might be nice as Gus mentioned but as a print it might be OK.

Thanks everybody. More canvas on the left is no problem - there is more in the original - need to reprocess the entire image though. Liked the 1:1 aspect ratio but could easily go to 5:4. Softness comes likely from the fact that this is a rather significant crop of the original - too much to be of use except for web display. I resharpened the cropped but not resized version - then resized and applied the same sharpening as previously.

Did a complete reprocess from the original - with a 5:4 aspect ratio crop this time - too much space in front of the birds now?

I like the last comp much better.
