A female Dark-eyed Junco perched on a low pine branch, today.

D7000 (new), 300f/4 AF-S, 1.7TC, hand-held, 1/125 at f/7.1, ISO 320, moderate crop.

Sharp bird with nice BG. I wish the light angle would have been better and the tail more visible.

I echo Mikko. Somehow you conserved the smoothness of the bill. On my monitor, the junco appears larger than it would look in real life. I'm not crazy about that effect.

I like everything here (especially the pine needles)...except the light angle. Had the bird turned its head a bit more the face would have been better lit. Oh, and I would tone down the bright part of the perch beneath the rump.

Yes, off-angled light as here will kill you most times. Here, with the front of the bird in shadow AND the shaded part of the trunk lined up with the front of the bird the results are fatal. The bird however looks just the right size to me.
