Super image, Jim. I love just a hint of reedy habitat in the BG. And the bird's colors are amazing -- do they really have that much rufous color? If so, Sibley doesn't do them justice. Wonderful as usual.

Colorful and sharp image. I would be interest to know, how much You have cropped and used noise reduction, because noise (mainly self-bird) is visible.

Anyway, great aviation image:S3:

Bill,

The vivid colors are due to the bittern's breeding plumage.

Small crop with no noise reduction on the bird.

Excellent wing angle; I really like the blurred bullrush in the BG, which gives a sense of the environment without being overpowering. There is a bit of noise in the image, mainly on the bird, but it's not too bad. The bird's head seems to be slightly turned away from the viewer (I'm basing this on the tip of the bill which seems to be OOF...). Also, looks like there is a tiny second catchlight.

Nice in flight shot, although the wings look sharper than the head. Sweet light.

This is a truly outstanding capture. Love the details in the talons and the wings and the BG is extremely complementary to the bird. Yes, the head is turned ever so slightly away, but a winner nonetheless.

nice light and wing position but the image is a bit noisy and also looks like the focus was on the wing rather than head.
