This is my first macro shots on this forum.
It is an orange tip, one of the first butterflies flying after the long winter in the Netherlands.

Beautiful image and composition, Carel. Amazing looking butterfly, Carel! Looks like it is wearing a fur coat. Nice sharp details, wonderful colors, and contrasts nicely with the soft olive green BG. Well done!

Hi Carel, welcome to macro!

This is a beautiful first post! The exposure and colors look great and the butterfly looks good and sharp although you might be able to get the tips of the antennae just a bit sharper. If this were mine, I'd consider cloning out the flower on the right since it's OOF and could distract the viewer from the butterfly. Then crop in from the right and add a little space on the left and top. I think you'd end up with a cleaner comp that way. This is well done and I'm looking forward to more of your macro work! :cheers:

Excellent picture and cool butterfly...I think it is a bit too tight upper left.
I added space there and the flower/eye fell on the rt 1/3 line.

Beautiful image of a fantastic subject, Carel! In an ideal world, the bud on the right would be sharp. But we don't live there, so I also recommend considering cloning it out as it does distract from your amazing subject. Tight composition top and left don't bother me and, if you decide to crop out the right bud, you could crop from the right to put the eye near the rule of thirds line. Excellent work; I hope to see more!

Hi Carel and welcome to the Macro forum! This is an excellent first post - the butterfly has interesting patterns, the exposure is right on with good detail in the whites, the butterfly has good sharpness and detail throughout, I like the even light, and the background is pleasingly OOF. Comp is often subjective and you have a couple of suggestions above to consider, but the OP works for me - and if the bud on the right was sharp, that would put this one over the top. This is well done and I, too, am looking forward to seeing more of your work. :cheers:

Hi Carel,
Welcome to the forum! I have no problem with the tight comp......works for me. Very nice BG and pose is pretty good as mentioned above also! I would consider lightening the head fur and eye just a few points.....just something to consider but a very good first start in this forum!
