Hi everyone,

I am just back from 3 weeks in wonderful Costa Rica. After my photo workshop concluded down there I stayed on for 5 extra days and had a wonderful opportunity with this Tiger Heron. Finding this guy in the low light as the sun went down presented some interesting opportunities to include the movement of the water in the image. I stopped WAY down to f/45 in order to get a 3.2 second exposure. I was very happy with the result :)

Any comments on this one are greatly appreciated.

All the best!

Glenn

Wonderful image. I saw a few of these guys on my recent trip, so I know they can stand pretty still; but I can't imagine how you got him as sharp as this without any motion blur in a 3.2 sec exposure. Love the comp, the stillness of the bird against the moving water. Terrific image.

A beautiful subject. Love the idea of slowing the water down. Makes this one. A great mood conveyed by this method.:5

+1 on the comments regarding the flowing water - really makes the image. A slight turn of the head up towards the viewer would have been nice. Also, I wonder if the bird could be brightened a bit?

Glenn:

A fine image that most would not have tried to create. I suspect there were a few rejects secondary to bird movement, but your efforts were rewarded.

Congrats

Great idea, it turned out very good. You don't see blurred water with a bird very often.

Doesn't get much better than this. Fantastic use of motion blur.
