The dark patch over the eye suggests this is about a two year old (immature) bald eagle flying along the Skunk rRver Valley in Iowa. Nikon D300 80-400VR @310 ISO 320 F11 1/1000th Exp Bias-0.67 Cropped. Taken handheld. Thanks for looking

Lovely mouth open pose and head is sharp...BG is a bit busy but not too bad. Is it snow? TFS Tom

Wonderfully dramatic in-flight image, Thom. The bird image is so strong, that the background doesn't bother me at all.

Hey Thom, you got some wickedly cool action here...great pose!! Just a wee bit dark overall IMO, and I would reduce the bluish cast to the snow in the BG. Hope to see some more if you have some...:c3:

BTW, welcome to BPN!!

Thanks for looking and the comments:

Dumay: Yes the white in the background is snow on the hilside of the valley. Iowa being in the Plain States does not have mountains to serve as a backdrop, just rolling hills, river valleys and some bluffs along the major rivers. In fact in all of Iowa, we cannot lay claim to even one waterfall in the entire state.

Terry: Thanks for commenting, the BG was a mix of snow and exposed ground on the hillside.

Daniel: I appreciate the comment. Here I can see the bluish cast to the snow too. I'll correct that when i can get back to a computer with LR.
