Glowing Pansy

I created the in camera glow of this Karma Blue Butterfly Pansy with the use of a strobe placed in the background and a gold reflector. I wanted the center of the flower to be brighter than the rest of the of the petals. I used a black background - MIII - 180mm - f/22 - 1/3 sec. - ISO 400

Hi Susan, the lighting technique really made the colors pop and brought out their varying hues.. Good sharpness,detail with the diagonal position adding interest. The black backround further accentuates the subject....Good one!

Hey Susan, I'd say you accomplished what you set out to do and the results look great! The lighting couldn't be better! Great color, nice glow and the BG really sets off the bright colors. The only change I might consider would be to lower the brightness and saturation of the stem.....right now it seems to be drawing a bit too much attention.

Hi Susan. The lighting and colors are very impressive and the flower really pops against the black background. I like Ken's suggestion of toning down the green a little. I'm wondering if you can selectively sharpen the central portion of the flower a bit more. That area appears soft - and all the colors and lines are directing my eye right to that spot. :S3:

Nice glow, colors, comp, Susan. The black BG does make the colors pop, and brings out the dark lines around the center.

Thanks so much for comments & feedback. I had originally contemplated toning the stem down a bit, but left it as was since I figured it went with the overall flow of the image. And as far as the bright light center I did not purposely sharpened it more, once again because I wanted more of the glow effect.
Nevertheless your points are well taken and very much appreciated it.

Hi Susan, an interesting effect created with some creative lighting! It looks quite different from the pansy's I'm used to (this one almost has a neon like quality), but I'm not sure how these colors deviate from the original colors.
