Been awhile since I've put anything up for view here in avian but since the RWBBs have returned, I got a little interest back. Taken in early evening on an overcast day, I liked this one mostly for the patterns on the back and how they blended with the colors of the distant reeds. 7D, 500/4 + 1.4xTC, f6.3, 1/100s, ISO 800, +2/3 EC, tripod mount, vertical crop from horizontal.

Hi Steve, good call on the +EC, as it has brought out the dark plumage very well. The overcast conditions have also rendered lovely soft light. The orange markings against the blacks stand out nicely, and I like the smooth BG. Great to see you in avian again.:w3

A nice chubby 1st year male with a beautiful BKGR and nice soft light. Too much of a head turn for me; for over-the-shoulder poses prefectly sqaure to the film plane is generally recommended.

I heard my first ones of the year just a couple of days ago!!

I too love the scaling/colours on the back, and I like the plump look to it. Great perch, awesome BG. I agree with Artie about the HA - but better this way than looking away.
