Majestic Swan

Hi,
Witnessed my first grebe dance, all be it through reeds so not recorded still I like this swan shot. Resized in paint so may have suffered in the downsizing. Original:-

An elegant pose for sure. And sharp.And nice soft light. Where?

The image looks way too dark.

In an ideal world the head would have been rotated a bit so that it was more parallel to the sensor with the bill tip closer to us than the eye.... And raised a bit.

Could you have moved well to your left for a more of a head on view and a slightly better light angle?

Very effective image for me. I agree with Artie's points, but I find the almost spotlight effect, showing lots of texture and feather detail nice. I tend to like slightly darker images than average , so it works for me.

I like this image quite a lot. The dark background doesn't bother me.

I do tend to prefer white to be "white" in color balance/levels, but that removes the "warmth" of the sunlight and I seem to be in the minority there.
I think it could benefit from more room on the rt and top placing the eye closer to the 1/3 intersection. It's just a little crowded to me.

But overall really nice. I love the sharpness, clarity, DOF and pose.

While the original image has some over-exposed whites (in the RED channel), it is way too dark overall for my taste on my calibrated monitor :)

Hey Tim, I do like it a lot :). Where was the image made? Where do you live?

Cheers Arthur, I live in the UK, Yorkshire. The image was taken on a nature reserve called Far Ings near the Humber bridge. I was was in the locality for Short Eared owls, but had no luck with close encounters.

Thanks Tim. I thought that you were a Brit :) At least Mute Swan is a native on your side of the pond. They are viewed as pests over here but I love photographing them in good light.
