The ice is still solid in the Bay but there are three water holes now, filled with Mallards.
How they melt the ice, how the keep it open at night when the temperature plunges to double digit minus, it is a mistery.
The only other species in one of the holes was a pair of Hoodies that flew out for the night.
The background is the frozen bay.
Thanks for looking.

Karl:

Nice to see a hooded flying. Good wing position, angle in frame.

I think the eye would seem a bit sharper with a little work on the reflections. As is, the apparent sharpness isn't great on the eye.

Cheers

Randy

The best Hoodie flight shot I've ever seen Karl! A little bright in places, but sharpness and wing position are quite good. Like the icy BG too. Well done!

Great shot Karl. The in-focus water droplets both on and behind the bird take this image to a higher level. I like the wing position, background and composition. Very nice!

Karl, we dont see many hoodie-in-flight shots. This is excellent. agree with Randy's suggestion on some eye work.

Hello Karl...first off, very well done on flight image of Merganser, background, sharpness and wing position really nice. I agree with Doug about a few bright spots, but I'd take this image in a heartbeat.

It was a pleasure meeting Marianne and You in Algonquin Park and spending a few hours talking about our great times birding and photographing...hope some day we can do it again.
