Miklos:

The perch is quite massive, but your crop helps to downplay that somewhat. I like the colors in the perch that echo the birds tones.

The color blossoms in the background are interesting, but would prefer the one didn't fall right behind the leg.

Your bird is sharp and well exposed. Just a tiny bit of fill flash would have really made him pop.

Good DOF.

Cheers

Randy

Randy:

The perch is the feeder, a hollow trunk, so it is really quite massive. :)
The reds in the background is the fruits of wild rose bushes, as you can see below.

BTW Randy (or other avian moderators), can I ask you, to change the html codes of my images in my older threads, to http://img.cirlus.hu/"image file name"? Only six images in four threads, but I can't edit my older posts.

Thanks

Miklós

Nice looking bird, Kind of reminds me of our Orioles. Sharp and great DOF with the look back pose. Bringing them in like that I am sure you could have a great choice in perches.:S3:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that this is fairly rare winter visitor in Hungary,
which adds to the success of the image.
I must disclose, however, that I'm biased with respect to the
equipment (I started with the same lens :w3) so...
In any case, I like it a lot. Congrats!

Welcome Miklos, I will try to get you help for your image link question.

For my repost I lightened the face with a Tim Grey non-destructive Dodge and Burn and and softened up the BKGR using several different methods....

ps; placing your log perch closer to the house and moving your lens back will soften up the background naturally....
