Fork-tailed Flycatcher

Galveston Island, Upper Texas coast.

D3, 300, 1.4TC, ISO 1000, f5.6, 1/4000, -0.3EV. Handheld.

Thought I would post one more Flycatcher before heading out of town for a series of workshops. I cropped this one in a bit tighter for this forum to show as much detail as possible. This bird made repeatable attempts at catching flies from the same perch and I managed to get a few good flight shots. I only got one with a fly that was in reasonable focus.

I hope to see some of you at NANPA next week!

Alan;

Excellent techs, nice wing and tail spread, but catching the fly in plane with the bird is great. I would say the head angle on the fly is pretty good too! :bg3:

I like the notched primaries too.

Well done.

Cheers

Killer image. Catched the bird in the act very nicely. Like the detail, sharpness and the transparent wing feathers.

That is awesome Alan! Nice exp. with wonderfull underwing detail, and nicely framed with crop. You can't get much better an image to demonstrate its namesake, could see this published in bird guide for sure!

Wow wow wow, this is really incredible. The sharpness, the details in both black and white, the pose with excellent wing and tail spread, the open beak and the fly really put this over the top. TFS

Spectacular Alan. In addition to above comments, I would like to mention that the fly looks like a little miniature of the bird with the major exception of the tail. Just wonderful.

The pose of the fly is quite excellent; it looks as if it wants to fly straight into the bill. Ditto all of the superlatives above X2.
