I was pretty excited when I spotted this fella close to the edge of the eroding sand as I knew it would make for a grander image than it appeared...the bottom of the "cliff" is just out of frame.:S3:

Cold and rainy conditions, and very productive and fun morning.

Canon 40D + 100-400L @360mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/400s., f/6.3, ISO 800, +1.7 EC, just about FF.

What a great shot, Daniel. I love the placement in the frame and the detail of the "cliff" edge really adds to the image. Soft surf in the background, a really nice touch.

Daniel:

This is a good lesson in working the area, seeing what you can make of your opportunities.

I got so fixated on the antics of some of the other birds that I didn't pursue this one, and I wish I had, as it certainly isn't your typical Little Estero image.

The comp, exposure and sharpness all nice. The sand cliff adds a significant amount of interesting detail to the image which keeps ones eye moving around the image.

Well seen and executed.

Cheers

Hi Daniel, I really like this shot, makes me wonder what the heron is thinking? Techs look good, and nice to see something different in terms of composition

Hi Daniel, like the composition and image design with lovely subdued lighting and exposure. Just shows what can be done even if conditions are'nt perfect.

Daniel, Good eye for this one. I love the cliff edge and the pose. The soft sea green BG adds nicely to the image.:S3:

Excellent composition. I like the way the Heron appears to be peering over the edge of the cliff.
