I have frequently had problems getting an export out of LR 3 to meet the 200KB limit. Occurs with initial images in either Raw or DNG- with some minor editing in LR3. I then use the export feature to create the JPG with a limit on the output of 200kb and 1024 x 800 pixels, 72 pixels per inch-and often get a message that LR3 is unable to create an output meeting the 200 KB limit. I have not been able to determine a pattern.

I can resort to creating an export JPG for email but those images are very small and not worth posting...anyone else run across this? thoughts?

Steve,

You should be able to use the export command but just fiddle with the options. I'm guessing you tried setting Limit File Size to 200 K and that wasn't working for you. Alternatively you can reduce the quality setting to make the exported images smaller. The size varies depending on the content of the image but try starting at 50 and adjust depending if your jpegs are too small or too large.

Here's a third party plugin that will let you specify max file size for an exported image. The free version lets you export up to 10 at a time. You will also need to grab Imagemagick but that's completely free.

Chris appreciate it very much. Not sure why LR3 often has trouble getting a raw image down to the 220k limit but it does. I might try going to a Jpeg and then exporting from that if your solution does not work

For BPN I always use the export function in Lightroom 3.2 with the limit set to 200k, and the dimension set to 1000 x 800. I have never had a problem, and I only shoot raw. In fact, the images are usually a little smaller than 200k. Maybe you should post the question on Adobe's Lightroom forum. That sounds like a strange error, and I have never seen that issue.

Me too. If I use 1024 x 800, 200K max, I almost always get a file sized 150-175K as well.

Posted the issue on the adobe forum and did not get a response yet. Never had problem until LR3 3.3 install...can not find a pattern yet but I do set the defaults as you have....makes no sense as it works fine on many images but struggles on others..interesting, the one common thing has been uncropped images...which should not make a difference

I send all of my images to CS5 and use the save for web function optimizing for file size at 195.
