Hi

Not far from my home there is an area of pine forest behind the coastal dunes that still holds a small remnant population of red squirrels. this is a species that has rapidly declined in England with the advance of the imported American Grey. The area receives many visitors and a local family of foxes have realised by visiting during daylight they are in with the chance of free food hand out. This provides some great photo opportunities. This is an image of the vixen that stayed around for about an hour during my last visit and wandered slowly through the woods allowing time to get a range of shots with different background settings.

Shots taken with 1DMk3 and 500mm lens at ISO 400.

Rich, what a great portrait.

The light makes me think of old Masters like Rembrandt.

I would love only a bit more room at the bottom if you have it or if it is within your ethics to add it.

Well done!

Hi Rich,

This is a beautiful portrait. I'm fine with the framing. On my monitor it seems a bit dark, easily corrected. It would have been nice if the right eye was a bit more illuminated but I understand how it is sometimes. Hope to see more soon...

Hey Rich, Wonderful image. Great use of light and choice of background. Looks as if it could use a bit of CW rotation.

later and love, artie

Thanks for your replies :). This fox on occasion came so close that I was ketting full frame head shots with the 300mm lens. Overall a very enjoyable experience having a wild animal at such close quarters.

A classic portrait with some nice spotlighting. The warm light on its fur works very well against the dark background here.
