Inspired by Roman's image, I played around with the rose my wife bought for Valentine's Day. To add some drama, I used my diffused MT-24EX with the ratio set at 4:1. Then I added a 550EX flash as a slave firing up from behind. Tiny crop, exposure adjustments, and high pass sharpening.

Hey Patrick,
Glad I could give a little inspiration! I really like the comp and your placment here. I am traveling....so on my laptop....but it does appear the reds are slightly blown in a few areas......and surprisingly enough, it doesn't seem to bother me as they add a rather graphic element. It would be interesting to see a version with them tamed a bit for comparison....but very nicely done overall!

Hi Patrick. Very appropriate colors for Valentine's Day! I like the diagonal flow of the petals, the variation in the lighting adds interest, and that bit of yellow at the bottom is frosting on the cake. Well done.

Thanks for input Roman. I checked and nothing is technically blown, but I do see some areas that look like it. I think there is just not much detail there. I did spend some time with Tim Grey D&B on the bright red areas. Let me know if this is better.

Thanks Steve.:bg3: That bottom light is what attracted me also. These roses are kind of white on the bottom, and red on the end. Regular red roses would not have been nearly as dramatic.

Beautifully composed close-up, Patrick.
Loved the way the edges of petals curve in and across the frame.

This reminds me of those slot canyons with the light and stone interacting interesting ways.

I think the repost seems to have more detail in some areas and I prefer the more subdued reds.

The two yellows and the sharp line between the two really add a lot.

Nice curves as well.

Good one for the DLFC.
