I decided to share a favorite from a week ago of a Short-eared Owl from Fishing Bay Maryland as my first post to this forum. I had the opportunity after many weeks of waiting thes guys out to get over 400 images of different poses from 4 different birds. Taken with the Canon EOS 5D (Older), Ef 400 f2.8L with the newest 2X III teleconverter. Near full frame at 800mm, ISO 800,, f6.3.

Welcome to BPN Jim! You picked a great image for your first post on Avian. Like the fluffed up feathers, eye contact, and sharpness. The BG suits the bird quite well. There's a little noise apparent in a couple of places. The new 2x really comes into its own when stopped down a full stop (f/8 in this case). Not sure what your shutter speed was, but trading a little of it for more DOF could have improved image quality.

Hey Jim, good to see you on here!!

Background color really compliments the owl. Love the comp.

the pose is great but the image quality is lacking, maybe too much noise reduction or a very tight crop.
