Caught this American white pelican in final rollout on the Mississippi River. Upper Mississippi Conservation Area, Missouri. Taken last Saturday morning.

Canon 1D Mark IV; Canon 500/4 + 1.4 TC II; 1/1600; f/6.3; ISO 200; Av; +1/3; Al Servo Tracking = Fast; Gitzo GT3530LS w/Wimberley II splayed over my lap at the edge of the river, all covered with cut-leaf camouflage, as usual.

Great shot Danny. Crisp, clear, and colorful. Also like the trailing wake and wave on the chest.

This is a very elegant pose you've captured. I like the blue background and the frozen mid landing and bow wave. I also like how the reflection of the water highlights the underside of the bird's wings.

Nice image Danny, action well captured and agree with the others the wave adds that extra bit of motion to the image.

I love the 1D4. The improvements over the 40D are much more subtle than I expected but it's nice to use the best Canon has to offer so I don't have to wonder all the time if I could be doing better with better equipment.....it's all me now!
