Photographed this morning on the aptly named Anhinga Trail, Everglades National Park. Canon 800mm/5.6L IS lens with the 1.4X III TC and the EOS-1D Mark IV. ISO 400. Evaluative metering +2/3 stop: 1/250 sec. at f/11.

Small crop and eliminated two small o-o-f branches.

Don't be shy; all comments welcome.

Artie, a nice simple composition. I like the color around the eye. TFS.

Artie. I agree nice composition and the fine feather detail is good, but on my monitor the blacks have very little detail, and IMO this is a problem. Am I being too critical? regards~Bill

Beautifully sharp profile , love the eye colour and flared feathers on the neck. Arthur I am interested in aperture, any reason for f11 ?

Not so much a question about the the image, but about the bird, is it molting the grey feathers?

About the image, I really like the sharpness and colors around the eye and feathers on his crest area. I would kind of like to see a bit more of the neck, I am not sure if that is what was cropped, perhaps a shot vertical as opposed to a horizontal.

I'm always amazed at how sharp you get these images with an 800mm lens with a 1.4TC and a shutter speed of 1/250! Even a touch of vibration at this focal length would create a soft image. A little more detail in the shadows would enhance the image.
