7d, 500mm + 1.4, 1/1000 @ f9 ISO 800, EV 0.
Taken at a local Dam/Lake. Preening and here loading its beak up with oil from the preen gland that is found at the base of the tail.
May be a bit tight.

Hi Tom:
You have a well exposed photograph here with a nice green background. I like the preening pose, although I wish I could see more of the bird's eye. I do find the fence distracting, but you can't say it doesn't match the bird.

I agree with Marina - seeing the head angled such the eye is visible is preferable. This is a very pretty bird, but feel the fence's too dominant contribution to the image hurts it. If this location is local for y9ou, I would be looking to capitalize on that and get back often.
Keep finding that BG and get the bird on a more natural perch or in flight and you got a real winner.
