Michael:

A big welcome to BPN. It is a great place to learn and grow as a nature photographer.

The strong back illumination shows nice detail in the wings, and you can see the skeleton as well!

This light angle has also cast the face and most of the body in shadows. He is angling a bit away from us. Usually images are more engaging if the bird is angled towards us.

Sharp, with perhaps a bit overexposure of the whites in a few areas.

Where are you located?

Look forward to more.

Cheers

Randy

Thank you for the, very constructive, comments. I can already tell that I will learn a lot in this forum!

I am based in the UK but I travel abroad a few times a year. This, and a few more I will post later, were taken in Tenerife. I also have some from Cyprus and Latvia and plenty from England.

BTW I see you are from Michigan. I did my MBA at CMU more than a decade ago :)

Michael:
Thanks for the info. I had to look up Tenerife, didn't realize it was in the Canary Islands.

Also be sure to post your images at the full 1024 H x800 V size, to give us the best chance to evaluate them and provide input.

Cheers

Randy

Good critique by Randy, and I agree with him. The bones showing through is a very neat effect created by the strong backlighting. I too wish you a warm welcome to BPN, and looking forward to more!:S3:

I add my welcome to Randy's right-on comments. I would add that for backlit flight it is best having the bird right overhead looking like the letter "T."
