Bighorn Sheep (Orvis canadensis). I photographed this young ram in Yellowstone NP, February 18, 2008.

D2Xs, 200-400 mm, 1.7x, f/10 @ 1/320, ISO 100, Gitzo Tripod, Wimberley II Head.

Comments and critiques are welcomed. Thanks for looking.

Tough conditions to photograph in but you did well to hold details. I lke the high-left, low-right angle of the lines in this photo to include the snow, ram, and grasses.

To me this image screams, harsh conditions, muscular control of the ram, his ability to live in this extreme environment is clearly seen here. I think you did very well in capturing this image inder the bright sun, with details no less. The look is classic. The down angle of the pose makes this one even better. I also like the upward slope from front of frame to back of frame. Sprigs of grasses here and there in the snow pack are a bonus.

Lighting is harsh. I am trying to imagine how it would look in better lighting conditions. I agree that the slope adds to the image.

As mentioned some tough light to work with. Nice composition and angle.
