While walking a local nature conservation area a very thin veil of clouds covered the sky and filtered the sun in a very appealing way. Hard to do this justice on a photograph, but thought it to be a nice winter scene for you all:c3:.

Canon 40D + efs 18-55 @21mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/250s., f/13, ISO 400, +0.7 EC, handheld, full-frame horizontally.

Hey Dan, Liked your scene. Took some liberties: Opened in PS3 > Cropped slightly from each side > Image > Apply image - adjusted Opacity slider to 36%.

Hi Dan, while there is no strong center of interest other than a muted sun the image does emit a mood of a cold and bleak winter day in a remote area. In this case I like the original crop with a small amount off the top.

Very nice photograph, this really captures the cold Canadian Shield feel, Daniel. I would not change this, I think as presented is best.

Nice presentation of a post-snowy cold day. Liked the original presentation without any changes.

Daniel,

I like the bleak, cold mood the image sets up.

A larger tree in the FG could have strengthened this image, balancing it with the smaller trees.

As posted, it is balanced well on the left but I find the right side void in the FG not working for me. Even with the sun, right side seems light compared to the heavier left side.

Daniel,

I like the image as presented as well. I understand what Robert is saying about balance though that's not a major issue for me. Beautiful winter scene.

Hi Daniel, I like this scene as presented in the original post. As Robert suggests it would have been nice to have another tree for FG interest, but I still like what you captured. Hope it wasn't too cold, we've had a few mornings over here at -30C.

Bleak and stark.
Looks really cold.
I think it captures the mood of the cold north country.
I like your version, wouldn't change it.
Glad I don't live there, too cold for me these days.

I really enjoy the composition as posted its subtle and simple with no one element over powering the scene.

Hey Daniel,
You definitely captured the mood here! I can see a million other comps......but while not the strongest of focal points.....it works pretty well. This one is all about the mood!

Hi Daniel, looks like this could have been taken here in Michigan. The filtered sun looks pretty cool!
