I captured this adult baldie near the Upper Delaware River area. The eagles perch in conifers with little hope for clean BG shots. I would think the preferred HA would not apply here. :) 1D mark IV, 800 f5.6, 1.4x II teleconverter, iso 500, f13, 1/100 shot from kirk window mount, ball head/sidekick. C & C appreciated.

What a Stare! Nice environmental shot. The BG does not bother me at all. Eagle is sharp and the colors are nice. Great catch.

A really lovely image. I just love it. Beautiful colours, surroundings and the bird is really sharp.

Excellent photo and I prefer birds in their surroundings, nice job.

Great stare, colors and environment. The head looks perhaps on the edge of being oversharpened on my screen.

With raptors a straight-on HA is often a perfectly good option!! Awesome stare. I like the surroundings too. Image looks like it could go a tad brighter. Is this a large-ish crop? Although sharp the fine details seem coarse...

Great shot!!!
I don't mind the branches at all, they frame the subject well and add some color. If mine, I might try a CW rotation to bring the eyes level.

Wonderful shot and stare! I like the pose and the way he is "nestled" in the pine needles is fine with me. Only comment would be that it appears to me a bit over sharpened as mentioned previously. TFS

Herb - love the stare and colors. Having seen the print that you showed me yesterday, I can't help but think that something happened to the IQ when you posted it. It does seem a bit dark in comparison.

thanks
Charles

Thanks for all of the comments. Note taken on the oversharpening. Thanks for the suggestion for leveling the eyes too Neil.
