I saw this one legged Flamingo in Pulicat Lake in India. When it wanted to move, it used to open its wings to balance itself and then hop. I took this shot when it was trying to move by hopping.

Equipment used: Canon EOS 1D Mark II, Canon EF 400mm f2.8 L IS USM, Canon EF 2xII Converter. 1/1600, F8, ISO 320. Shot at 800mm. About 43% Cropped.

Beautiful effect with the BG birds OOF. I only wish the main subject was more to the left. The blue band atop could be cropped or cloned out.

Stunning birds, only wish the main one was not so centered.

Wading birds often lift one leg and hide it under the feathers. Instead of bringing the hidden leg down they will often hop on one leg when roosting, giving the appearance of a one-legged bird. In fact they are perfectly uninjured.

This one looks injured. It is not common for flamingo to hop (and not easy too)

Sad picture....

I watched this flamingo for some time. The flamingoes were feeding and progressively moving. This one legged flamingo kept pace with the other flamingoes. I loved its spirit. Triumph of will power over adversity.
