Another image of the NHO that came in for a rare visit this close to home. Hope to get back up there when the weather clears a bit.
D300, 400 w/1.4tc, 1/800, f4, iso 1000, man exp.

Todd, I like 'birds small in frmae' compositions a lot. Very nicely done here. Terrific sharpness and prey, as usual, is neat to have.

If mine, I'd brighten it and go the full high-key route.

Interesting comp... lots of dead space but it seems to work well. I like it. Man it's been a long time since I last photographed NHO's (film days) Love to have another chance...

This is great, Todd! I love your composition complete with the tree top. I think I would like to see the owl brightened up a bit also. What a great trip you had!

Congrats on your sighting! I just spent a couple of hours photographing one of these locally...what a spectacular (and surprisingly small) bird. I agree with the idea of brightening the bird and perch, and I wouldn't mind seeing it higher in the frame.

This gorgeous image could be improved by brightening all but the sky. What was your exposure bias?
