Gus,

love the eye contact, pose, comp and especially the border and signature. All went hand in hand pretty well.

I see some smudges in the background. Are they from post processing?

A real cutie Gus! Very nice, simple image. with lovely colour. This is definitely a greeting card image with lots of space on the right for the words! There is a bit of a halo around the perch and bird. Bird approach is to mask these out using quickmask and a soft brush and then work on the BG.

I like the crop on the second post better, Gus, but I'd take it vertical and let the branch wander out of the frame. That butter ball of a bird is too cute! Very nice HA and pose. He looks like he might be a teeny tiny hot on his breast in two places. You might grab that light yellow color and paint over the two bright areas at 15-20% opacity and see if that works.
