Caught this adult bald eagle flying in front of a misty rainbow caused by a large amount of water flowing through a nearby dam. Natural art? :)

Susquehanna River, Maryland, USA

Cloned out powerlines, increased background saturation to emphasize rainbow, cropped

Utterly dramatic. Bird is winging its way toward us, bird can't be sharper, love the down stroke wings, love the background beyond words.

Echo the comments above. This is fantastic. Those colors and how the handsome bird pops against them is a treat for the eyes. Shapness and detail in the bird are fantastic too. Superbly done.

Hi Charles ,

Nicely conceived and captured image. Clear detail on the Eagle and I like the colour transition of the rainbow background.TFS

C, The only nit I have with this image is that it is not mine! Your PP is perfect along with the super job on the capture!!

Thanks! I've learned more regarding PP on this forum in the last few weeks than I have in years! I used to think I knew what I was doing, and never realized how many "good" shots I had that could have benefited from a better PP workflow.

thanks

Great flight angle and wing position, and terrific detail and exposure. Rainbow puts it over the top. Nicely done indeed!

WOW WOW WOW !!...now this is something. IOTW candidate IMO.

of course the rainbow is great...but the light on the bird and its angle is what takes this several notches up. Stunning IQ too.

this is simply picture perfect image. loved the purple and hues of many colors in bg. the pose and wing position is just spot on and so the lighting here. Great composition.

Wow, C, I looked again at this one and must say you captured the Eagle in the perfect moment with the gold BG. How are you going to follow up this image????

Hey thanks - I had about 6 frames and this one had the best head angle and wing position. Luckily the colors also appear to have worked. Usually for me that's the one shot that is OOF :p

Oh I don't know about a follow up, now you've got me worried. Maybe the Bald Eagle IPT in March will help :)

thanks for all of the kind words
Charles

Even without the "rainbow" this could have been a remarkable image. I do wonder though why the rainbow is not seen in the top 20-30% of the frame... JR

Joerg,

The brightness of the sky does makes the color shift less obvious, but it is certainly there. The rainbow was caused by the sun shining through a cloud of mist, created by a heavy flow of water over the dam. The bird was flying right in front of it.
