There was not much going on aside from a lot of fog. This was just about the last image that I created before packing it in.

Great Egret in soft light, Canon 500mm f/4L IS lens (with 4th GD low foot), 1.4X II TC, and the EOS-1D MIII. ISO 400. Evaluative metering + 2 2/3 stop off sky set manually: 1/500 sec. at f5/6. Dont' be shy. All comments welcome. later and love, artie

Elegant! The soft light, the crop, the flight angle, the wing position, and the detail on the underside of the wings make this one a winner.

Hi Artie,

This is very nice. I like the detail beneath the wing very much.
Did you use all 45 AF points to capture the bird in flight or a single AF point on your MKIII ?

Thanks and regards,

Austin

Central sensor only right on the face. This is slight crop from behind and below. Have not had much luck with AAFPS with the MIII, esp. with a BKGR other than sky...

Hi Artie,

Hope you are feeling better. Love the wings position, sharpness and exposure. Nicely done.

FYI. No white pelicans.

Nice hanging out with you again.

I like the position of the bird in the frame and you nailed the exposure under neath the wings that really brings out the detail in the feathers. What seems a little off is the lack of extension on the neck or maybe it is from the angle your subject is approaching. It presents that area as more of a singular hot white area with out detail or dimension.

the exposure captured the subtle details of the wing feathers well. i also like soft colors of the background. not too distracting but it creates for an interesting canvas for this beautiful great egret. the slight angling of the bird was captured nicely again to highlight the feather patterns underneath.

best regards,
