Gadwall
Southern California

Usually I don't get many oppt with this species and last week we had quite a few of them flying through. This will probably be my last posted of this species.

Thanks For Looking

You should patent this look! A beautiful duck frozen with perfect wing position against a gorgeous BG. Hope to get a few of my own in a couple of weeks.

James, you have been posting some excellent inflight images - this is no exception. Lovely flying posture captured in soft light. Great BG too.

This is an extraordinary image of a species with a sometimes under-appreciated beauty all its own.

Wow the images on BPN today have been excellent and this one is no exeption. All has been said James but I must say you manage to get excellent detail of the feather pattern and the colours in your images. The colours on this one are beautiful. I've enjoyed all your DIF images. TFS

James, loved the wing position and the details. Good eye contact. good call on f-stop. You are the master for DIF. Pity that the duck was moving its head some.

Jim:

Lovely colors, sharp, well exposed.
He is angling away a bit, but the head is back our way a little to my eye, which helps.
I might consider toning down the gray streak above his rump.

Keep them coming. I love the new term: DIF (ducks in flight). You obviously inspired it!

Cheers

Randy

Hi Jim,

This is my favorite of the gadwalls so I guess you saved the best for last....at least in my opinion. I like it so much because it really demonstrates all of the colors of this fine duck and of course is a wonderful flight shot. Regarding the angle of the bird, as I always say, this is just another point of view that is just as compelling as it would have been if he'd been angled a bit toward you....certainly more unique than the latter as far as images go. Great work as always.

Jim, your spectacular duck-in-flight images are second to none. Awesome comp, wing position and a bg to die for. Thanks for sharing!

This is so, so beautiful and technically perfect that it does not bug me one single iota that the bird is angling slightly away. The chestnut wing coverts are incredibly as is the soft light and the sharpness. Wow!

Very spectacular. I agree with Randy about the grayish area in the BG above the rump...but man this is awesome!!

You've given us as many colors as I'd expect from a slow-moving duck while also telling the story of his flight. Congratulations.

Thanks for the comments always appreciated. I thought about cloning the vertical tree branch in the bg but just decided to leave it.
