Trying to decide how many of the BG twigs to take out as sparrows seem to be "in the sticks" kind of birds (for me anyway). I like clean BGs as much as anyone so I am tempted to clean out the upper half of the BG completely. Any suggestions appreciated.

nice pose, BG a bit busy and critical focus is on the wing.

It would be alot of work cleaning up that upper BG, especially with the many twigs merging with the tail. Have you already done some work on it? I see the contour of the bird as softish, as if masking was not refined. Personally I'd leave the BG as is and work on getting this species on a better perch and better BG (think setup). This is one of the easier species to call onto a perch, if you are OK with that type of field use.

Nice alert pose on this guy, and I like the foot curving along the surface of the perch.
