this image was made in Keoladeo Ghana National Park, Bharatpur, India last year - less than 10 breeding pairs left in the park - - I will post the pair later- I do not usually post bird photos so all C&C more than welcome

Nikon d300 200-400, 1/1600, f5.6, iso 800 - I was using a monopod from a boat - unfortunately there were 8 other people in the small wooden boat - hard to get a steady shoot

Interesting bird. The image would be better if the bird wasn't angled away from you.

Hi Billy,

Always nice to see a rare bird and I've never even heard of this guy. You've made a sharp image but it looks like you were dealing with some harsh light and the image is quite contrasty which takes away from the presentation a bit. The neck has lost most of the detail due to the same problem. Overall, the photo looks a little painterly in the background and from the neck up on the bird, probably as a result of ISO 800 for this combo. I don't mind the angle of the bird at all. As long as there is decent eye contact, it's just another angle from which to view a beautiful animal. I'm looking forward to seeing the pair next. Thanks!

Thanks Danny - the light was quite harsh and the boat was unstable - I had my camera set at iso 800 because we kept going into shaded areas and I needed the speed - this bird is even more impressive in person - it is about 5 feet tall

Wow, I would never had guessed it was that huge. I've never seen a bird quite like this guy. Thanks again.
