During a workshop with Jack Graham we went to Mono lake early in the morning for the sunrise - bloody cold!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, the color started to come up in the sky - yup, I have dragged it out further. I do like to create strong hot colors where the possibility exists.

I really enjoy crawling into this image and its solitude; I was glad the lake was relatively still.

Hi Jay,

Good idea to shoot this as a pano. Love the colors, you have "dragged" them out nicely. I only wish there was a little more room on the left side of the comp, but think you could add a touch of canvas to that side and then it will be perfect. :)

Hey Jay,
I too love bold colors so love the direction you went with this! Agree with Andrew on the LH side.....so not a large amount.....just a bit. I too think the pano accentuates the tufa's so a VG choice there too! All in all a great job on this one!

PS I think this image can answer some of your questions to why you photograph. I'd imagine that looking at this you are bought back to this glorious scene and know that you have done it justice! :cheers:

I will work on adding canvass - have to study O'Toole's adding canvass again.

I have decided I am not going to keep posting lots of new images - gosh I have loads of landscaped - until the posted one are put to bed.

Interestingly the original RAW of this and Zabriske Point were blah but the information was there to bring out the strong saturated colors - something I am not afraid to do.

You are probably right in that the processed image definitely brings me back to that oh so cold morning watching the sun rise over Mono - a magic place.

Hi Jay,I also agree you did a nice job on this with the pano crop working well. While colorful the image doesn't look unnatural. I would also like to see a bit more room on the left so your not quite so close to the edge. As Roman said...not much.

Hi, I finally “think” I figured out how to extend the canvass.

I extended it a “bit” on the left side.

1. I used the crop tool to extend it out slightly; I couldn't get the Image>Canvas Size to work properly.

2. I used the marquee tool to make a selection slightly into the original image.

3. I used the clone tool to clean up the line.

I hope the extension passes muster; does it need more?

I used the same procedure Save For Web to save both images; why would the “extended” image be slightly smaller in kbs?
