Hey Stuart,

This is my kind of shot as it shows all of the fine detail, grit, crud and character. Cool the way the hide flaps over those tusks. It has kind of a forlorn look in the eye, as well. Background gives a sense of habitat even though its really just bokeh. When I start smelling the animal through my monitor, I know the photographer has done a good job. Thanks.

Personally I might have done a bit of gardening on the foliage under the nose as I do find it slightly distraction from what is, a very good portrait. Try to keep to 'TRUE' ISOs ie 100,200 400, avoid the in between ones.


When I start smelling the animal through my monitor, I know the photographer has done a good job.

Can I have one of Danny's monitors please, they sound great. :cool:

Great profile Stuart. Detail of the skin and hair is excellent. I'm sure the vibrant greens are true to what you saw but I'd tone them down a touch.

Hi Stuart, this is a good portrait of an animal that can be quite hard to photograph well. Liked the eye-level feel to the shot, and also the textures of the hair, especially those running along his back

Thanks Ken. You are correct. I remember this being taken in an area that had controlled burning a while ago, and the vegatation is coming through. That is the reason for the black parts in the BG. I should have mentioned it in my introduction.
