The lesson, 7.53am.
Mum (at rear) supervising her two 11mth old cubs chasing down a baby Thomson's Gazelle, as often happens this young pair simply stumbled upon the tommie who broke from cover, then the chase was on.
Toned down some of the highlights in the grass across the trio & gazelle, left minor BG termite mounds as is.;)

D3s 500VR 1/1600s ISO400@f/5.6 Masai Mara- Kenya Oct 2010, 30% crop to pano.

C & C most welcome

Another reminder of life on the plains and illustrates well how short life is there.

Great capture.

Marc,

Looks like mum is not very interested, but then it is not much of a meal.

Nice capture of a natural event.

Marc I like how you framed all three cheetahs and their prey...pano crop works well

light direction could have been better...but I would be happy with this! :D

Several times I was in Masai - Mara, always waiting to shoot something like this one. I am full of envy to see this picture.

Love the position of the cheetahs. Captured at the perfect moment!

Hi Marc,

This is a fascinating shot as it really tells a story. Just look at the facial expression of the young one in the lead.....it is still just playing although I'm sure the prey doesn't feel that way. And mama is just back there with the clear look of evaluation on her face as if she is scoring the exercise. What an image?!!

Hi Marc,
This looks an excellent image to me. Clearly the light was not ideal, but the cheetahs still have enough detail in them to be strong, and the front cats pose is just perfect, leaping clear of the grass and with paws raised. It certainly does a good job of telling the story. Well done with this. You really reaped a good haul of strong images on your last trip it seems
cheers

Agree about the light.

but most importantly you got the shot..

we all know how hard it is to get in position especially if it s someone else doing the driving..

A great behavioural shot..
well done

I like the line created by the cheetahs. Reminds me of one of those old time motion stills. That lead cheetah needs to quit using his tail for balance while hunting and realize that he's out of sync with the others :).

Love the strung out family in this training pursuit! Excellent behaviour captured. Wonderful!
