It's not often you get to close proximity of an Etosha bull and have all to yourself.... as he slumbered along feeding on clumps of herbs he would stop occasionally to dust off some soil before eating....

Peter - Looks like the light was harsh judging by the shadows. I like the conversion and the placement in the frame. Well done.

I really like this one Peter and the conversion has worked a treat and a nice change from the colour versions. Some great detail in this 'big old unit' , but for me, the plumes of dust and curled trunk really makes this one. Perhaps a slight lightening within the darker shadow areas might help?

This is a really neat pic. I like it a lot. The dust action is especially good. I agree with Steve re. the shadows.

B&W good choice with the strong light. You can try opening up the shadows as suggested but I feel this one works quite well as presented. Great BG and FG make him stand out in his environment. Well done Peter.

The conv to B&W is excellent here Peter, along with that curled trunk and dust.

Peter, I have to say that you are a master of the 'dusty' elephant and have a knack for creating a real atmosphere with your images. No exception here and the b&w conversion has worked well. Although I noticed the heavy shadows I am ambivalent about whether I'd change them. The harsh light is part of the African bush and in many ways adds to the feeling about conditions here.

nice one Peter. It's not everyday you can fit an ellie into a 600mm lens and not have anything cluttering around him too :)

nice conversion, love the dust and the composition

This embodies the spirit of Etosha perfectly, I'll be glad to be back there next June.

The B& W is perfect for an image of this type, and of course the light is nearly always harsh in Etosha, one of its many charms.

Really like the BW and the little bit of dirt coming from the trunk.
