Captured this one recently in the Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa.

I just liked the way this calf was facing my way amidst the throng of ellies moving towards the nearest waterhole. It also looked like it was searching for nourishment from its mother.

B&W conversion did much more for me here than the colour version.

Techs:
Canon 7D with 100-400mm L IS USM @ 400mm
f8.0 @ 1/800 SS @ ISO-400

You've captured this scene well with a nice low perspective Morkel, B&W does it justice here.
Only nit would be for a touch wider.

Morkel - I like this a lot and agree the b&w makes it special. Well spotted and composed.

Getting separation with Elephants is notoriously difficult, and you have almost done it.

The B & W works well for the image, have you looked at a crop to eliminate the OOF Elephant?

Hi Morkel, good spot. I can see where Ken is coming from and it might be worth a look at a revised crop perhaps? Once you see it I do find my eye being drawn the the left one. My only comment would be to perhaps open some of the shadows, but am looking at it on the laptop so will need to review it later.

If possible I would have like to see you step right and get the calf between the adults w/o them touching.

I like the use of B&W here and feel this was probably more affective then a color version Morkel.

thanks for the comments guys...I investigated the tight crop but it just placed the calf a little too much on the side for me...:)

Mork, your conversion has turned out very well here - good overall tones. In a perfect world, having space on the baby's right would have been first prize, but we both know shooting in parks or just wildlife in general you have to get the right moment with no second chance.
