Taken at the Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve in Newport Beach, CA last February. I would have liked a better wing angle (to show more of the head), but I was happy to get such a close shot of this bird (this is about a 50% crop).

Canon 7D with the 400mm f/5.6 lens. Manual; f/8; 1/1600sec; ISO 800.

Standard PP, except I improved the originally-bland sky color using a Selective Color adjustment layer.

Thanks for looking,

John

PLEASE NOTE: This image is not posting properly. Don't know what the problem is, but the posted image is smaller than the original and is blurred.

John, I dont see it blurred...infact looks very sharp and nice. Excellent dorsal view, details and exposure.

John, very nice "topside" view. I think (may have) seen the same bird there on more than one occasion, but never that close up . . . It looks a little blurred to me, as well.

Looks great to me. Sharp and well exposed. Nice head angle also. I really like the top view, nice capture.

Looks good to me also, would not have noticed anything if not mentioned. Nice HA

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Something's definitely wrong on my end. When I view the image within the thread using either Firefox or Safari, it is about 1/3 smaller than the original image I uploaded and definitely fuzzy. The image I uploaded is 1001 pixels x 800 pixels (H x V) and 127kB. The posted image is definitely smaller than that when I view it in the thread.

Not sure what's going on.

The image look sharp here too. My only wish is that the near wing were angled down to present a nice dorsal view. I am pretty sure that this is a youngster.

This image is now displaying properly (as of Sunday night, 10/24). The forum image size problem has been fixed (see this thread: Image Size Problem (http://www.birdphotographers.net/forums/showthread.php?73812-Image-Size-Problem)).
