Taken on my recent trip to Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. These striking birds are easily spotted in the arid scrub environment of the Karoo.

Super detail - I think the high shutter speed was a good precaution, flight or no flight shot. I like the pose and the red does not appear over saturated. It may be worthwhile applying a little Shadows/Highlights to the darker plumage to lift a tad more detail.

The reds look good with good definition of the black eye emerging from the black head.

Looks like there is a little noise in the dark areas. Did you recover this from an underexposed image? It is posing nicely and the reds are so vivid. I like the presentation and one thing to improve would be a slightly better head angle. :)

Lovely low angle Pieter, and you have exposed this difficult character very well. As Akos mentioned, waiting for him to turn his head slightly more towards you would have worked so well.
