Semipalmated Plover at Sunset ~ Fall Dunes

While spending some time at Plum island last week photographing a Curlew Sandpiper, I came across this little beauty tucked out of the wind in the last glow of the evening sun.

The plant material is a bit cluttered, but I kind of like it as an environmental scene.

I really like this image. The composition is really nice with the bird in amongst the vegetation. You've got some nice details here and I like the soft evening light.

I find I like the way the vegetation frames the bird. As mentioned, you have great warm light, nice details, a good HA and a very, very inquisitive look!

PS. I only find the shadows bug me a little, but unavoidable. I wonder how it would have been if you had went lower?

Yes it works for me too, plenty of vegetation but non obscuring the subject, I can't help but feel that sometimes we become a little obsessive over clearing minor natural material/blemishes, after all nature is natural. I like the composition and the light and the super detail in the plumage.

Love it, Jim. I find this type of image which includes habitat much more appealing that a plain bird. Lovely light.
