Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I wished I had gone for perhaps f/11 or 16 aperture so the little one was also in focus :( just concentrating on Mum too much. The BG is sea, the blacker area is where it meets the land, the brown in the brush. All in camera, slight crop.

This is a gorgeous composition, I love the curves and the expression of affection on both faces. Agree with your self-critique on the focus, such is life but it still works really well.

Steve,

You mentioned the only thing I would have pointed out. I love the arc of the adults back and the little one's position and look is priceless. Well done.

Agree with self-critique but hindsight is always 20/20. Despite the pup's being a tad OOF, I still think this capture is an award winner. I love the curves, the BG and the details in all the wiskers. When you couple that with the pup lying so intimately against the adult, it really tells an awesome story.

Thanks Marina, it was shot in the Galapagos, a location that is second to none for the relationship between animal & man as they have no fear. Whilst shooting one set, before you know it, a pup is pushing his/her butt into the back of you, not that I have a physique of a fur seal, but... :D

beautiful lines to this photo! rich colors and such neat fur - I love the way you created such simple, strong shapes of color....

Like the interaction and the tight crop creates a very elegant design.

great image. Even though your suggestion of DOF here would be technically great, i find it as is very interesting!:D

Steve, despite the oof pup, I still like the shot very much! The soft tones are just perfect and the interaction between the two is priceless.
