I didn't want to crop the sky because I like the sweep of the clouds. This was kind of a grab shot from this angle as I took this one as we were walking out. I used Photomatix Pro tonemapping for this and some other tweaks in PS. I did soften the look a little w/a very slight Orton type action.

Hi Denise, Good compositional elements with the barn offset and just enough foreground. The sky is the star in this image adding huge interest and drama with those sweeping wisps on the upper left making this sky a bit different.
I was debating whether the barn and terrain are a bit too orange but every time I go back to the image I have a different take on it so....no comment either way. Overall, nicely handled...

Hey Denise,
I shot it this morning ! You had a great stormy sky too!!! I'm OK with the color but feel you can tweak a few things.....the tree tops on the RH and LH roofline have gotta' go! Getting 2 steps closer in the field would have taken care of that......but that's what happens sometimes so an easy fix. I might be tempted to tweak the trees a touch brighter.....to balance the barn a bit more but overall....very nice job with this and a super job in PP'ing.

I love the overall look. The colors are striking and the blue sky make the barn color stand out.

Dave, Thanks for the helpful advice. I could tone the oranges down just a bit-it would probably look better.
Rene, Thanks for the kind comments. You and your son have been missed.
Roman, Thanks for the help. I never even noticed the tree tops-but you are right they have to go! I can't wait to see what the master comes up with!!:)

I lightened the trees, reduced the orange by 26% and removed the 2 back trees.I do like it better.

Hi Denise,

Catching up on missed posts. Looks like you had a great trip. Love the light. Like the re-post better than original post. The clouds look great! I remember reading somewhere that when the clouds look great include as much of the sky as possible. Well done!

Smashing photograph, Denise! Love those colors together. Such a dramatic comp and sky. Now I am curious to try the Orton effect!

One heck of a shot, Denise. really liked the balance with the barn and the trees and the clouds at the top. Cliched term...but this is really picture perfect.

very nice Denise! especially for handheld ;)

it might just be an illusion, but when looking at this image I gauge the horizon level by the basement line of the barn...which in this case seems to slope upwards to the right. I'm wondering if a slight CW rotation would mess up the mountains and clouds in the BG?

Morkel, Thanks for the comments. I appreciate it. I think that this old cabin/barn is not very level and I'm not sure I could use it as a level guide.
PS-CONGRATULATIONS ON THE AWARD!!!!:)

Kudos for creating such a nice image of this icon without including the Tetons!

Nicely done. I prefer #2 over #1.

Thanks for reminding me that I'm supposed to be in YSNP chasing wolves with friends (not really chasing) this week. Unfortunately the real world beckons me to stay here and work. I'm looking forward to May 2011...
