This is an Indian Roller, with the wings closed you cannot see much colours in them, but in flight all the beautiful shades of Blue show up.

spec: 1/3200, F 5.6, ISO 800

Mk4 + 500mm + 1.4TC

Kiran, the noise you just heard was my jaw hitting the floor. Stunning stunning shot.

I'd move the bird a little lower in the frame...but great shot as-is too.

BBC material if it meets the guidelines. Congrats. Please post a full frame jpeg that accurately represents the converted RAW file. I am imagining that you at least cropped from the top and one of the sides....

You chose the right light, the right settings, and very importantly the right bird. Mother Nature helped create this exciting image by painting the underwings of the roller those lovely shades of blue. You did your part by seeing the possibilities in the situation. Something tells me you visualized something like this shot before you took it. Was that the case?

Thank you my dearest Guruji for your kind words, your words are always special to me as I have always considered you as my guru and the person I look up to.

Sorry guruji the raw file is in the HD at office, will post it on Monday. I have cloned out some distracting branches from the frame and sure its cropped.

Thank you again,

Kiran

Thanks for your kind word Kiran-bhai. They touch my heart. I am curious in part as to the original composition and also to learn which focusing sensor you used, and a bit more :)

A masterpiece and a great source of inspiration for the rest of us to keep trying to capture something as incredible as this image. Just curious . . . how many frames did you shoot in this sequence and did you entice the roller toward you (not that this would be a bad thing) or just anticipate/visualize the moment perfectly? Congratulations!!!

Thank you Graig and Gary,

Sure had something like this in mind for a long time, was expecting the take off as these birds done sit in one place for long. But another roller just flew over us and this bird took off backwards give me this chance. I totally made about 6 frames and this I like most.

Thanks Kiran, Well done on the clean-up; actually a great job. You might try a version with a bit wider crop.

What sensor was active? May we assume that you were in AI Servo AF mode?
