View Full Version : Aperture 3: JPEG Master vs RAW Master on Import?

I shoot RAW+JPG and want to keep both files. Importing into Aperture 3 gives me the option of handling them as two separate files or to use either the JPG or the RAW file as master. What are the pros and cons for each. I usually use the JPG for most of my day to day image manipulation and printing, resorting to the RAW if there are exposure, white balance or other issues with the image that need correcting, or if the image needs significant manipulation. I will always import both files at the same time, and will not do the JPEG import first.

If I choose to import both JPEG as master, how do I tell it to do the white balance, exposure manipulation etc on the RAW file?

Thanks.

Sincerely,

Hany.

'Photos' menu select either 'Set JPEG as master' or 'Set RAW as master'. This will let you work on whatever one you want to at the time. You can also have two masters, one jpeg, and one RAW and "Set" the master to that specific type for each of the images.

Or import both as separate masters and stack them.
