Oh....oh....oh.....do I ever love this one. This is a stunning portrait. I'm such a big fan of a black BG and the light colors and beak color stand out so well. If I would change anything, it might be to crop it a little tighter.....perhaps a square crop as shown. Could you tell me more about where you got this image?

That shot was taken at the Audubon Society's Center for Birds Of Prey (http://www.audubonofflorida.org/who_centers_CBOP.html) in Mailand, Florida. They do outstanding work rehabilitating injured raptors and then releasing them back into nature. Their release rate is over 40%.

Excellent shot Z. You handled the less than perfect lighting from taht day very well.

Thanks Harry. Harry is indeed right about where - he was there, too! (Harry did you get re-released into the wild, too?)

Thanks for the comments - I do really like the square crop. I sometimes use the square and find it does fit this well.

Thanks George and Harry for the information on where the image was made. Is the Center a place that one can visit daily or are they only open for special events? I'll be in Florida in the next few weeks and thought it might be a great place to visit.

Its open daily but almost all of the inhabitants are in cages. I arranged a couple of special visits for $100 each where they took 5 raptors (bald eagle, red shouldered hawk, crested caracara, barn owl and a barred owl) out for us to photograph.

Thanks.....after a little more searching I found the place and figured it might be something like that.

Whats not to like here. Excelent all the way around. Just beautiful. Love the black bg with the close portrait. They could use this one to hang in the office for all to see what has been accomplished.
