I was leaving the beach area at Plum Island about 10 days ago with mixed results. I was quite happy, however, to find a parent killdeer and 4 chicks in the marsh.

D300s, 600 VR with 1.4 tc
1/6400 , f7.1, 0 EC (auto) iso 200

The top of the head looks a bit soft, I was wondering if you did anything to the background that might have leaked over, or if it's my monitor!
I really like the slightly bedraggled look shorebird chicks often have, and you captured that very nicely. Lovely.

A very late chick Alan. I like the portrait. You have a nice low angle at the bird's eye level and the surroundings are not at all distracting. There is an overall softness in the image which might be improved with another round of sharpening. I wonder if there's any detail in the eye that could be dodged out?
