I need a new tripod and my pockets are only half full at the moment. A gitzo is out of the question. I'm left with induro, feisol, and the manfrotto carbon fiber tripods as options. Can anyone give me some reasons not to consider these options? Thank you.

Hi Don Should search around the threads .. lots of feedback regarding tripods. Will you be using in salt water?

Alfred,

I live in the midwest and rarely get to the ocean. Salt water would not be a factor.

I've been using a Benro C-358n6 with a Manfrotto head for 3 years now, no problems. I use it to support a 500mm lens and a 180mm macro lens.

I have direct experience with CF Gitzo and Feisol. Both are excellent. Just get the tripod that suits your needs- this means don't be afraid to buy a scale of tripod that will support the weight of your biggest lens/body, tc and flash. In other words, buy more support than you need and you will not regret it.

Like John, I own both Gitzo and Feisol tripods. I have the heavier Gitzo GT3530LS for the 500/4 and the lighter Feisol CT-3301 for the 300/4 and down. The Feisol is light as a feather, fit and finish is wonderful, and it was very affordable as ordered directly from the Feisol website. Also, the Feisol top mounting plate won't fall off.;) Good luck!

P.S. I forgot to mention that Feisol has heavier tripods that will handle as big a lens as you can afford.
