Back from Maine photographing moose from a canoe, lots of fun and many changes just need it better light. Had heavy overcast and rain all of the time and tough for these dark color animals.

Best time to go after them is first week of October, start of the mating season and fall colors for a great background !! btw at this time its easy to call the males !!

Comments welcome and much appreciated

Like the 'separation' Al and the canoe gives an excellent low POW. Looks like the MKIV did the business, based on the techs.

Looking at this, plus Artie's advice on the 300 I am getting very confused on what to pack. Guess the clothes will be an option/luxury. :D

I heavily rely on the 100-400 Steve :) Versatility seems to be its strong point and quality not bad !!! Shooting from a canoe you don't want to be reaching for converters etc !!! ..... btw a great lens here would have been the 400 DO !!!

Heavy overcast and rain all the time is better for the mooses than bright sun all the time :) I really like how the dark tones look in this one. And I like the lily pads (???) in the water.

Agree on overcast rain being better than bright conditions but when you resort to ISO 2000 and 4000 for 1/250 sec its too dark, IQ suffers !! We hit the pond just after first light which is at four twenty am but never got ideal conditions !! ... btw on close to full moon nights is important to be out there early since the will be done feeding early and go to bed !!

The moose were feeding on something that look like lily pads just much smaller. They were all over the place !!

Al,

Welcome back, seems like overcast is becoming the norm.

Great image and detail, this a really strange looking creature;)

Love the comp with the habitat in the FG and BG. Moose placement in frame is perfect. Very nice, Alfred.

Alfred,
I really like the BG bushes and the water and shoreline FG. Nice alert pose by the moose.
