Same individual I posted last week, but I am a sucker for over-the-shoulder poses...so here is one it offered me:).

Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/320s., f/6.3, ISO 800, +0.7 EC, natural light, handheld, ~85% full-frame. Audio used to lure it down to the perch.

I like the soft light, composition, sharpness and look-back pose and would only tone down the highlights on the perch.

Daniel, pose is superb. I liked the lighting and how you handled it. Excellent DOF control...which is very important when bird is facing away IMO.

I am assuming you did not run NR on bird....so very surprised at iso 800 quality....especially because the bird is not very bright. I'd have expected to see more noise in the bird.

One suggesion is a crop from below...above your watermark.

Super comp Dan, and with a lovely relaxed pose to go with it. You have captured good overall feather detail, and I like the softer colour of the BG.

Hi Daniel,
I love this as presented - light handled beautifully as mentioned above and superb feather detail. I like the crop as presented :)

Comp, pose and BG are wonderful.
I think that the high Iso / NR and slow shutter speed as affected the quality a little bit

Thanks guys for the comments:).

Kaustubh, you are right...no NR on the bird (and perch). When exposed properly, or to the right, I've always found the 40D's files at ISO 800 to be very good - even with darker colours. The trick is not having to raise the overall exposure during post processing, although some light selective dodging works fine.

Great south side capture and eye contact. IMG is sharp and well exposed against a killer bg. Well done !

As nice as it gets Daniel, minor two things, I too would have cropped above your signature and maybe lightened the eye a touch.
