Scott:
Nice catch by the bird! Good head angle. I like the basic comp, but would like a little more room to the right. Sharp.
The high ISO here because of the lighting has added a lot of noise to the image. If you had time, you might have given up a bit of depth of field (larger f/stop) to lower the ISO a bit.

Was this a captive bird?

Cheers

Is not a captive bird -- I first flushed this Red-shouldered Hawk from the grasses near a dried-up lake in Central Flroida. He hung around -- flying from tree to tree -- but stayed in the area. After a bit he landed in the same spot from which I first flushed him and retreived this grasshopper. Guess he did not want to give up the kill. He is in rather deep shade.

Scott:

Strong work to get in this close on a wild hawk.

Very nice close-up and catch a bonus. Agree with Randy re choice of F stop.

Hi Scott. I like the pose and prey. I probably would have opened up my aperture here to drop my ISO; the 7D is a solid performer in the noise department but ISO 3200 in the shade is probably asking a bit much.
